Influential people haven’t always been famous. They were once like you – struggling to get their foot in the door and make a name for themselves. • Remember to keep it real and sincere when you are first introduced to an influential person. Don’t turn the meet-and-great into a sales pitch about your business. You will immediately turn the other person off and quickly lose their attention. Mention how you’ve recommended their books or presentations to your colleagues and contacts. You will probably receive a warm smile and thank you.
• Know what you’re talking about when you join a conversation with influential people. The last thing you want to do is to look like a fool. Understand the scope of the conversation before you join it. It will be very apparent that you don’t know what you’re talking about if you try to wing it.
